professionals as they assist their clients. Each person conducting a search requires an account, set up by
HITE Staff, and a password. When a health or social service professional is using HITE to conduct searches,
he or she is never required to enter information that could be used to identify a client. The only personal
information that the site requires is the name and e-mail address of the person who will be logging in to
conduct searches. Additional information relating to this user—such as organization name, mailing address,
and telephone number—is requested, but is not absolutely necessary.
If at any time HITE decides to require the entry of personal information, such information will be handled
in the strictest confidence; it will not be sold, reused, rented, loaned, or otherwise disclosed. Any personal
information given to HITE will be held with the utmost care, and will not be used in ways to which you have not
consented.
Browser information collected on the Web site. In its capacity as Web site operator, HITE analyzes data about
the traffic and user log-ins to our Web site to improve the value of our Web site. Users who do not log in can
not be personally identified. Users who log in can be identified using the information they submitted when they
first obtained their HITE account. Using this information, HITE may monitor usage patterns in order to improve
the Web site. Such information may include, but shall not be limited to, dates and times of log-ins and log-in
frequency.
Use of cookies. HITE may use cookies for user convenience, such as to keep a user's login ID active
or to assist in navigation within the site.
Information sent to HITE by e-mail. Any information sent by a user to HITE Staff by means of e-mail
communication shall be kept in the strictest confidence. If and when HITE Staff invite individuals to submit
personal information regarding health care issues or services offered through our Web site, or to assist HITE
in research efforts aimed at improving the HITE database and Web site, such personal information will be kept
in the strictest confidence.
